Faculty Spotlight: Morrison Faculty to Study Economics of Food Safety
After a few spinach and green onion recalls, greater importance is placed on food safety of produce as well as the cost of such recalls. “Food safety is an issue that will persist for years to come, especially after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack,” said William Nganje, associate professor and principal investigator on the study. Nganje and four other faculty members are set to study the potential monetary losses that may arise in the event of an agro-terrorism attack and/or contamination of imported produce.

Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Timothy Richards
Obesity research is a hot topic today. Dr. Richards’ research focuses on how the dramatic rise in obesity in the United States is due more to the over-consumption of unhealthy foods than to under-activity.

Alumni Spotlight: Wurzbach Reflects on China Experience
During Shane Wurzbach’s senior year at ASU, he accepted a position that would prove to be one of the best decisions of his life. Upon graduating, Wurzbach accepted an opportunity to teach golf in China at Mission Hills Golf Club. In the short time that he was in China, he trained with a top golf pro, conducted golf clinics and wrote an article for Golf Digest - China.

Alumni Spotlight: Oliver Flake, M.S. Agribusiness ’99
Oliver Flake works for the Foreign Agriculture Service as a U.S. agricultural attaché. This father of five children and his family enjoy the challenges of living overseas while promoting America’s agricultural trade interests.

News: Dr. Timothy Richards Appointed to Morrison Chair
The Morrison School is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Timothy Richards as the inaugural recipient of the Morrison Chair.

News: NAMA Students Work on Dates
Members of the ASU student chapter of the National Agri-marketing Association (NAMA) have been tasked with helping to increase sales of the palm date fruit. Their goal is to make dates an attractive fruit alternative to younger segments of the population.

Event: Alumni Reunion
The Morrison School kicked off its inaugural alumni reunion in April. The school now boasts more than 5,400 alumni with degrees in agriculture, agribusiness, business administration and real estate.
